Tout au long de leur vie, les animaux apprennent de nouvelles informations et les intègrent à leurs connaissances antérieures. Ce processus permet aux organismes d’adapter de manière optimale leur comportement moteur aux entrées sensorielles de l’environnement. Pour soutenir l’apprentissage sensorimoteur, le cerveau adulte doit subir des modifications à plusieurs niveaux et à plusieurs échelles de temps. Mon objectif à long terme est d’étudier directement l’activité neuronale d’un animal lors de l’apprentissage d’une nouvelle compétence comportementale. Plus spécifiquement, je suis intéressé par la façon dont les neurones corticaux lisent des informations à partir de zones sensorielles afin de générer des mouvements appropriés. Cela sera étudié dans un cadre en boucle fermée dans laquelle l’activité du cortex moteur entraîne un actionneur externe, et la rétroaction sensorielle concernant l’état de l’actionneur est renvoyée au cerveau par stimulation dans les zones corticales primaires. Nous examinerons en particulier les exigences en termes d’organisation spatiale et temporelle des modèles de rétroaction. L’hypothèse principale que nous proposons de tester est de savoir si le retour d’information doit suivre les règles des schémas naturels d’activité ou si le cerveau peut apprendre à utiliser tout type de retour d’information.
