A genomic approach of the evolution of the sense of smell in vertebrates.
Invited by Sylvie Rétaux
Abstract
Vertebrates often have a keen sense of smell. This sensory modality depends on an olfactory organ in which olfactory receptors are expressed. Analyses of the evolutionary dynamics of the large families of genes coding for these proteins shed light on the evolution of olfaction. I will present our work on the evolution of olfaction in ray-finned fishes and sharks using recently published genomes.
